Types of Wedding Ceremonies in Germany

Symbolic, legally binding, religious… What’s the difference? For more detailed info about the different ways to get married in Germany, request our brochure. Whichever type of ceremony you end up choosing, our flexible packages for Germany have got you covered.

A legally binding ceremony is one that is registered in Germany, valid by German law and, in most cases, will equally be accepted as such in your home country.  A legally binding wedding ceremony in Germany requires a lot of time and bureaucratic effort and can only take place in specific certified locations.

A religious ceremony in Germany can be either Protestant or Catholic and usually takes place in a church. An English-speaking priest can be requested and some parts of the ceremony can often be personalized by the couple, like saying your own vows. To be legally binding, a civil wedding ceremony is still necessary.

Couples can choose a symbolic ceremony in Germany when they prefer the ease of getting legally married in their home country and then simply have a meaningful blessing ceremony abroad. In a symbolic ceremony you actually also have full control over how your ceremony, your rituals and your vows look like.

…still not sure?

No worries, your local planner will be happy to explain all the differences and advise you on which type of ceremony is best for your circumstances.

About Our Wedding Packages

After many years of planning tailor-made destination weddings in Europe, we put all our experience into designing our packages to make organising your special day a hassle-free experience. For more info about our other packages for getting married abroad, request our brochure.

Can we personalize our wedding ceremony?

Absolutely! If you are having a  symbolic wedding, we will put you directly in touch with your celebrant to begin writing your bespoke ceremony outline! She will ask you about your story, your preferences in wording and advise on rituals or traditions you want to include in your wedding ceremony in Germany.

Can we reduce the price by removing services?

We understand that budget is one of the main concerns when planning a destination wedding in Germany. Our packages are customizable so you can adapt them to your own personal needs and your budget. You can remove or swap services in the package and we will recalculate the package price accordingly.

Do we really need On-the-Day-Coordination?

It depends on your specific case and on the number of your guests. For very intimate weddings in Germany, coordinators are not absolutely necessary . We work with experienced vendors who are very good at what they do and will know where to go and what to do.

The florist will deliver your flower to your hotel in the morning of your wedding. Your makeup artist will come directly to your hotel room to get you ready in comfort. She will be there to help you with everything concerning your looks! Your celebrant will perform your bespoke wedding ceremony and the photographer will capture all the most beautiful moments of the day!

If you are having a bigger wedding that requires setting up decoration, seating or includes a reception or catered dinner, an On-the Day-Coordination is recommended to make sure that you can relax and only focus on the both of you on your big day.

Who will be the celebrant and photographer for our wedding?

All our celebrants in Germany are either native English-speakers or are experienced in performing English wedding ceremonies. Who exactly will be performing your ceremony depends on our celebrants’ availability.

We work with several talented photographers for our weddings in Germany. Their style of photography aims to capture all the beautiful moments of your German wedding without looking posed or fake. Again, the choice of photographer for your wedding will depend on availability. If you have any preferences, however, do not hesitate to let us know. We’ll do our best to accommodate your wishes wherever possible!

How does the planning process for our German wedding look like?

Step 1: Get in touch with us by writing an enquiry or scheduling a consultation call. Let us know what you have in mind for your small wedding in Germany. If you already know your preferred date(s), guest numbers and any other additional information, let us know!

Step 2: Pick your ceremony location or wedding venue in Germany and choose what you would like to include in your package.

Step 3: As soon as you are happy to proceed, you can sign the booking agreement and pay the deposit (min. €1,000 or 25% of the total package, whichever is higher). This deposit goes towards securing all the wedding professionals for your day.

Step 4: We put you directly in touch with your celebrant. He will contact you and set up a time for a call to talk about your ceremony and simply get to know you. He will begin writing your bespoke ceremony outline including the rituals and wording of your choice.

Step 5: Follow our ‘Next Steps’ guideline (sent to you upon receipt of the deposit) to let us know about your preferences for bouquet, styling, music and cake.

Step 6: Approximately two weeks before your wedding day, we double-check everything with our team and the vendors and send you a detailed timeline of the day, together with all necessary contact details.

Step 7: On your wedding day, there’s nothing left for you to do but to relax, enjoy and say yes! In case you should need us, we will be available to deal with any issues or help otherwise.

Do we choose flowers, styling, music and cake for our wedding in Germany?

Yes, absolutely! Once the formalities of booking are out of the way and we have begun planning your small wedding in Germany, we will ask you to send us your preferences for each element. For flowers, cake and styling, we’d ask you to send us reference pictures so that our suppliers can match your preferred style as closely as possible. For music, you can choose from the musician’s repertoire or suggest your own favourite songs for the ceremony!

Will our marriage in Germany be legal back home?

Yes! In most cases (including USA and UK) a marriage registered in Germany will be completely legal back home. As long as you follow all legal requirements in Germany, your marriage will be treated as if it had been registered in you home country.

Couple’s Reviews

There is no way we could possibly describe what our wedding was like for us. The location… breathtaking. We even had snow on the mountain tops because of an overnight rainstorm.

Our celebrant… who understood the need and desire for this ceremony even though we had already had one, who wrote the most heartfelt and personal things to say and did 2 beautiful traditional German wedding practices.

The photographers… Mauro and Michelle who love the outdoors I think as much as we do and saw so much beauty in the location but more importantly, saw the love between us and captured our personalities and our sense of adventure perfectly. (I got in Lake Eibsee in my wedding dress people.. it was AMAZING)

The wedding planner, Elvira Pross at Peach Perfect Weddings… perfection. We barely had to do anything but share our vision and she made it come to life. We would not have had any of the above amazing experiences if not for her.

None of this would have been possible without this amazing service. Thank you!!

My husband and I had a private ceremony at Maximin Grünhaus in Germany. And by private, I mean just the two of us, my best friend (who was the officiant) and one other friend (my best friend’s husband).
Elvira and I exchanged well over 100 emails this year. I had been having a lot of anxiety and stress over planning a wedding, entertaining guests, spending tons of our own money, and dealing with family drama. When I reached out to Peach Perfect Weddings, I was extremely apprehensive of having such a small ceremony. What would our families and friends think? Will I regret not having my loved ones there? Elvira eased my mind time and time again. She went above and beyond to create something even BETTER than what I thought my dream wedding was.

On the day of the ceremony, I felt absolutely no stress. None. The weather was beautiful, the venue was perfect, and all of the people Elvira recommended to document and help us with our day were extraordinary. They were so kind and just as excited for our wedding as we were.

If I could go back and choose Peach Perfect Weddings or a traditional wedding in the States, I’d choose Peach Perfect EVERY time.If you’re still on the fence about having a small ceremony in Europe, I promise you Peach Perfect Weddings can give you your fairytale!

Weather… When To Get Married in Germany

You know how they say: “Rainy wedding, happy marriage”? Well yes, that could be your case in Germany! Some rain there is to be expected, all year long. So if you’re planning to elope in Germany outdoors, we suggest choosing the months between May and August – while it might still rain, it will most likely last for just some minutes (ok, maybe half an hour!) and you would still be able to get married at your chosen location. Just in case of prolonged rain however, a smart choice could be to book your wedding night accommodation in a romantic hotel that also has some kind of function room or common area to work as plan B for your ceremony.

But actually Germany is very much known for its vibrant autumnal colors, when leaves are falling and the whole atmosphere in nature is enchanting: so if you’d like to have red and golden tones as your backdrop for your wedding day, autumn is your season to get married in Germany.

Beware of the snow in winter months, especially in Southern Bavaria! For your romantic winter elopement in Germany, the best months would definitely be December, January and February.
