Small ceremonies, big impact

You’re after a close-knit wedding that allows you to focus on the most important thing — your love for each other. You’re in the right place, as this is the type of wedding I just love planning.

Elopements

Typically 2-12 people: Say your vows in front of just each other, or with a few of your loved ones as witnesses.

Micro weddings

Typically 20-60 people: A micro wedding has all the elements of a traditional wedding, but with fewer guests to make it a more private experience.

Intimate weddings

Typically 15-40 people: Step away from the rest of the world to celebrate your love in a private venue with your closest family and friends.

Vow renewals

Typically 2-8 people: Northern Ireland has so many stunning spots that are ideal for renewing your marriage vows, either just the two of you or with friends and family cheering you on.

Location, location, location

There’s a beautiful wild spirit in Northern Ireland that runs through people and places. It may be a wee country but it’s got a mighty selection of stunning landscapes – think rugged cliffs, fairytale castles, and majestic lakes.

The North Coast

A spectacular coastline of dramatic cliffs and the richest green fields, all punctuated with ancient ruins, castles, and monuments – and not forgetting the famous Giants Causeway.

Strangford Lough

The largest sea lake in the British Isles that’s home to a host of diverse wildlife, bordered with beautiful country houses and ancient Christian churches. You wouldn’t think it’s just up the road from Belfast!

Tollymore Forest

Where lush woodlands meet the mountains and the sea, with historic monuments and follies dotted throughout. (And you may also recognize it from the first season of Game of Thrones.)

Got a date?

Not sure when you want to hold your Northern Irish wedding? Here's a guide to what time of year would suit you best.

Spring

March is chilly, but the weather warms up in April and May. This is when the flowers start to bloom (you can't miss the colourful rhododendrons), and the countryside takes on its stereotypical rich green hues! March is outside peak wedding season, so you'll benefit from cheaper rates.

Summer

Temperatures in the summer months of June, July, and August are pretty mild, hitting an average of between 64-68°F (18-20°C). You'll enjoy long daylight hours, though, with the sun setting between 8.30-10pm depending on the month. This is a great season to plan an outdoor ceremony.

Autumn

The weather is cooling down and rain is quite likely, as are mists and fogs in the morning. But nature puts on an amazing show during this season, with the trees providing gorgeous colours across the countryside. Take advantage of this to get beautiful outdoor wedding photos!

Winter

December, January, and February never really fall below 40-45°F (4.5-7°C), with snow an extremely rare occurrence. Daylight hours are short, but these mild temperatures still give you plenty of opportunities to get outside. January and February are also the cheapest months for wedding vendors.

Northern Irish wedding ceremonies

As part of the UK, there are three types of wedding ceremonies you can have in Northern Ireland. If you need help in deciding, I'll be delighted to talk you through your options in more detail.

Civil

A legally binding ceremony that takes place in a register office or licensed building. You’ll need to meet the registrar in person to make a declaration of your intent to marry at least a month before the ceremony.

Religious

Any wedding ceremony in a registered religious building is legally binding – just get the permission of the religious leader in your venue and have the ceremony conducted by an authorized person. You’ll also need to make an in-person declaration of intent to marry in the local register office.

Symbolic

A non-legally binding ceremony that can be held anywhere, both indoors and outdoors, led by either a professional celebrant or your nominated person. Infinitely customizable, and therefore uniquely yours.

The person behind the planner

Destination wedding planner in Ireland, applying a bride's makeup

I so enjoy getting to know my couples and creating a wedding that embodies their style and their connection. I also live for the excitement of couples looking at my vendors’ portfolios!

Favorite area of Northern Ireland for a wedding?

The North Coast is my number one destination. I live in a land-locked county, so it’s heaven to get out there and feel the Atlantic breeze in my hair and my soul.

The best thing about being a planner?

Do I have to pick just one? It’s such a privilege being trusted with someone’s wedding, and I love becoming part of their family for the day.

Most memorable wedding?

A Nicaraguan couple who got married at the amazing Dunseverick Castle. Despite the 70mph winds, their outdoor ceremony was utterly beautiful. I’m still in touch with the bride and this chapter of their wedding story is a treasured part of her memories.

What’s your favorite part of a wedding?

The embodiment of love on a wedding day is amazing – if you could make it into a drug you could sell it for a fortune!

Most photogenic time of year?

September or October – you get crisp sunshine, low light and a gorgeously moody vibe. Plus sunsets are earlier, so you can enjoy some gorgeous golden hour photography with plenty of time to party afterwards.

Go-to food?

Italian and Thai are my favorite cuisines, but made with Irish produce – it really is superior to anywhere else in the world!

When you’re not planning weddings, you’re…

Walking around lakes and seas with my two dogs, painting, and spending time with my amazing family. Also studying — I recently got a first in my psychology degree, and I’ve just started a Masters in clinical health psychology.
