Photoshoot
With its secluded setting and surrounded by nature, the castle offers an array of indoor and outdoor photo opportunities. Outside, the rugged landscape and hidden little woods create a magical setting. Game of Thrones lovers will feel as if they have been transported to Winterfell and our quirky bespoke garden "thrones" are believed to have been commissioned for one of the Harry Potter movies. Lough Derg is just a few minutes away from the castle for more photo opportunities.
Surroundings
The castle is located close to Lough Derg in Ireland's picturesque Hidden Heartlands with quaint villages within easy driving distance. There are some wonderful, characterful pubs and award-winning restaurants/eateries within a 15 minute radius.
Accommodation
For couple-only elopements there's an option to stay the night in The Great Hall after the ceremony. We can also recommend accommodation in the area.
Reception
After the ceremony, pop some complimentary Prosecco for a celebratory toast. We have a kitchenette with a small fridge and tea/coffee making facilities. Glassware, crockery, cutlery and replica medieval tableware are also available to use.
Ceremony
The castle offers the couple exclusive use and total privacy for their symbolic ceremony. Apart from the couple, celebrant and photographer, The Great Hall can also host up to six additional guests. To evoke an authentic 16th century atmosphere, The Great Hall (and spiral stairs) has only candlelight and firelight for illumination with abundant candles and firewood provided.
Highlights
Dramatically perched on a rocky outcrop, the castle is a rustic 16th century towerhouse, one of 18 castles in this historic region of Tipperary built by the O'Kennedy Clan. The castle is situated in a rural, scenic location on 13 acres of land and bordered by a crystal-clear creek, forestry and woodlands. Accessed by an ancient stone spiral staircase, The Great Hall is the most romantic space for an elopement ceremony, retaining all its original features including a beautiful vaulted ceiling and an impressive open fireplace.
