Ceremony

Saying your I do’s in the courtyard right in front of the castle, with its medieval facade in the background, is the best way to celebrate your special day in this surreal venue. With a courtyard ceremony, you can get married under the blue sky with a grandiose backdrop.

Another alternative spot for a beautiful wedding is the castle park where you will be surrounded by luscious plants while reciting your vows.

Indoor weddings, on the other hand, can take place inside a former synagogue with architectural splendor and pure elegance. It’s a special setting for wedding ceremonies because of its old chapel style and a solemn ambiance.

The ceremony spots above are truly amazing for a unique wedding ceremony in a German castle. However it’s undeniable that the forest chapel right next to the medieval structure is one of the best, if not the best setting for an intimate wedding. It’s a perfect spot for small weddings with a charming countryside ambiance.

Lastly, there are two churches to choose from if you prefer a religious wedding. First is the castle’s church sitting right next to the castle, and the second is a Catholic church in the immediate vicinity.

History

In the 11th-century, this moated castle in Hesse was intentionally built on an important trade route in the middle of an extensive forest. It has undergone renovations and expansions throughout the centuries to facilitate innovations that suit the times.

A residential and defensive tower was constructed to protect the Romrod family. Later, the Landgraves of Hesse took over the castle and transformed it into a hunting lodge. Large hunting camps were organized around the venue, making it a center of princely hunts.

Due to its careful preservation and historical significance, the German Foundation for the Protection of Monuments purchased the castle. Since then, numerous measures were put in place to restore the compound. With this kind of protection and preservation, you can only expect the best experience in the castle on your wedding day.

Accommodation

Each of the 39 rooms in the castle promises convenience, comfort, and style. Each has high-speed WiFi to keep you connected, flat screen TV, tastefully decorated bathrooms, and a mix of antique and modern furnishings.

Reception

The castle also boasts of a classically-styled spot for wedding receptions with both indoor and outdoor areas that can accommodate 25-40 people.

Bigger groups can celebrate by the castle’s pond or inside the Knight’s Hall with minimalist white interiors embedded with rustic wooden beams. Both areas can accommodate up to 110 guests. When the dinner is over, you can bring your guests inside the vaulted cellar for an unforgettable party.

A medium-sized wedding, on the other hand, is best celebrated inside the simple yet elegant restaurant of the castle. After dinner, you can bring your guests into the venue’s bar with glass walls offering views to the entire castle for late night drinks and the party.
