A dreamy micro wedding in a beachside wedding hotel in Cascais
Same sex weddings are illegal where I live, so I had to look to do it overseas, Patricia scheduled a meeting with me and my girlfriend right away and got the ball rolling from day 1. She helped with 99% of everything and despite the time difference we were still able to get things done in a timely manner. We didn't have a big budget but Patricia helped a lot on saving costs for us and asking for every little detail. The venue and decoration turned out wonderfully and we couldn't have asked for more. I asked for a completely new piece of music to be played by the pianist and he totally nailed it. I was so happy to hear the song I wanted other than the normal wedding songs. I would definitely recommend Patricia if you were looking to have your wedding in Portugal! Thanks so much Patricia (and congratulations!!!)
Audrey & Eli’s micro wedding in Portugal
When Audrey and Eli decided to have a micro wedding in Portugal, they had a very clear vision: a small, meaningful celebration in a beautiful location, surrounded only by the people they love most.
As a same-sex couple from Hong Kong, where same-sex marriage is not legally recognised, they needed to look overseas for a destination where they could make their love official. Portugal opened its arms to them, offering not just legal recognition but also breathtaking scenery, warm summer skies, and a luxury seaside hotel with medieval charm right along Cascais Bay.
With the help of their destination wedding planner in Portugal, every detail came together seamlessly despite the miles and the time difference. The result was a magical, intimate celebration that felt as joyful and complete as any grand affair, proving once again that love shines brightest when shared with the right people.
Finding the perfect Portuguese wedding venue
From the moment Audrey and Eli began exploring Portuguese wedding venues, two things were non-negotiable: they wanted to be close to the airport, and they wanted a stunning view. Cascais delivered on both counts and then some.
Nestled along a scenic bay just a short drive from Lisbon, the town offers a rare combination of accessibility and charm that is hard to find anywhere else in Europe. The couple's chosen hotel sits right on the waterfront, offering panoramic sea views, historic architectural details, and the kind of luxury service that makes every guest feel like royalty.
For couples weighing up a micro wedding in Portugal, this part of the Lisbon coastline is worth every consideration. It is romantic, refined, and refreshingly easy to reach, making it a natural favourite among international couples looking for a meaningful and memorable setting.
The planning story: Love across time zones
Planning a wedding from Hong Kong to Portugal is no small feat, but Audrey and Eli had an extraordinary ally in their corner. From the very first message, their wedding planner Patricia responded quickly, scheduling a meeting straight away and getting the ball rolling from day one.
She guided the couple through every decision, from venue selection to vendor recommendations and bookings, handling roughly 99% of the logistics herself. The time difference was never an obstacle. Patricia worked around their schedule, communicated clearly, and always made sure no detail was overlooked.
She also helped the couple stay within their budget without ever compromising on quality, a testament to her local knowledge and expertise, and her genuine commitment to her clients.
For any couple considering a destination wedding in Europe, this kind of dedicated, personal support - the best ingredient of our of Portugal wedding packages - makes all the difference.
A ceremony kissed by the sea in Cascais
On the 25th of June 2024, Audrey and Eli were married inside a beautifully appointed room in their chosen Cascais hotel, with the shimmering waters of the bay just beyond the windows. The indoor ceremony had an intimate, romantic atmosphere, enhanced by the hotel's medieval-inspired architecture and elegant interiors.
Soft light filtered in as the couple exchanged their vows before their nearest and dearest, with every element of the room carefully styled to reflect their vision.
A live pianist added a deeply personal touch to the occasion: Audrey had requested an entirely original piece of music, something completely different from traditional wedding songs, and the musician delivered it flawlessly.
Hearing that song for the first time on her wedding day moved her to tears of joy. It was one of those unrepeatable moments that no photograph can fully capture, but that lives on forever in the heart.
Effortlessly stylish: The couple's white wedding looks
Audrey and Eli opted for a relaxed, chic aesthetic when it came to their wedding-day attire, choosing casual white outfits that felt true to their personal style. Rather than formal gowns or elaborate suits, the couple embraced a light and breezy look that suited both the summer setting and the intimate scale of their celebration.
Their white ensembles gave the day a fresh, modern feel while still feeling special and intentional. Against the backdrop of the hotel's classic interiors and the sparkling sea beyond, the effect was simply stunning.
Their look reminded us that a wedding outfit does not need to be elaborate to be perfect. Sometimes the most stylish choice is the one that lets the couple's personalities shine through, and Audrey and Eli wore their joy and love with more elegance than any designer label could provide.
Summer sunshine and sea breeze: Portugal's perfect wedding weather
June in Cascais is something close to perfection for an outdoor or beachside celebration. Long golden days, warm temperatures, and a refreshing sea breeze make the Portuguese Riviera one of the finest settings for a summer wedding in Europe.
Couples who opt for an intimate wedding in Portugal or celebrate a first wedding here during the summer months are almost guaranteed the kind of weather that makes photographs luminous and guests relaxed.
Unlike some European destinations that can feel oppressively hot in midsummer, Cascais benefits from the cooling influence of the Atlantic, keeping the temperature pleasant even on the sunniest days.
For Audrey and Eli's late June wedding, the conditions were ideal, contributing to that magical, effortless atmosphere that the couple and their guests still talk about. It is one of the many reasons Portugal consistently draws couples from around the world, season after season.
Love, laughter, and a party to remember
Once the ceremony was over, the celebration truly began. Audrey and Eli's reception was a lively, joyful gathering filled with laughter, heartfelt toasts, and the kind of energy that only comes from being surrounded by people who genuinely adore you.
Their guests, many of whom had flown from Hong Kong and beyond specifically to be there, threw themselves into the festivities with enthusiasm. The atmosphere was warm, relaxed, and full of fun, striking exactly the right balance between elegance and genuine celebration.
No one missed the grandeur of a larger wedding, because everything that mattered was already there: great food, wonderful company, and two people deeply in love. It was a reminder that the best parties are not defined by size.
Choosing intimacy over scale often leads to the most unforgettable celebrations of all.
