Tie the knot at a sunset seafood restaurant above Cala Conta

Casual, coastal and unpretentious. The main terrace is a dark timber post-and-beam structure with a roof, open sides and rope-and-post railings. It feels like a deck hung over the cove. Festoon lights run under the beams and the tables are dressed in plain white linen. A sandy upper terrace has a stretched sailcloth shade, pallet sofas and bright cushions. This is the Ibiza of the old days: barefoot-friendly, sun-faded and relaxed rather than polished.

Ses Roques began in the 1980s as a small beach bar for locals, hikers and day-trippers. Many of them came round from Sant Antoni by boat, and the owners cooked big traditional paellas with homemade sangria. The boat connection still stands: the Sant Antoni ferry drops passengers at Cala Conta all summer. The bar has grown into a timber terrace with a proper kitchen, but rice, fresh fish and local produce are still the whole point. The name simply means "the rocks" in Ibizan Catalan.

The coast path north of the restaurant reaches Torre d'en Rovira in under two kilometers. It's a watchtower built in 1763 to guard the approach to Sant Antoni, with the islets laid out below it. Cala d'Hort and its view of Es Vedrà are a 19 km drive south. Boat trips leave Sant Antoni for the west-coast coves, and Dalt Vila, Ibiza Town's walled hilltop quarter, makes an easy day out. It's a compact island, so a destination wedding in Spain based here keeps everything within an hour's drive.

Guests arrive along the Cala Conta road from Sant Agustí des Vedrà, a whitewashed hamlet about 8 km inland. The road ends at a barrier, with parking before it and a short walk to the beach. In high season the car park fills early, so a coach or minibus from Sant Antoni, about 20 minutes away, is the easy answer. The other option is the water. A seasonal ferry runs from Sant Antoni to Cala Conta, and couples have arrived by boat to guests waiting in white on the shore.

Ses Roques is a restaurant, so nobody sleeps on site. The practical bases are Sant Antoni de Portmany, 14 km away, with the island's widest choice of hotels and apartments. Ceremonies at Ses Roques are symbolic. Most of our couples handle the legal paperwork at home and save the vows for the terrace. The sea sits behind the celebrant and the islets on the horizon. The venue keeps weddings within its own private terraces. So the ceremony happens at the water's edge inside the restaurant rather than out on the open rocks. White chairs, a draped timber arch and a runner across the deck are the usual set-up. The light in the hour before sunset is the reason people choose this coast.

Dinner is served on the covered terrace, a timber deck under a roof with open sides, and in the glass-screened section beside it. Round or long tables come dressed in white linen with the restaurant's own china and glassware. The sun goes down over the cove while the first course is served. The restaurant takes weddings of up to 150 guests. From 75 adults the whole place is yours. Smaller groups take one of the terraces while the restaurant stays open, which suits an evening dinner for 20 to 60 anyway.

Everything is cooked in-house, and there's no set wedding menu: you build your own from the restaurant's wedding card. Aperitifs arrive as a round of five bites, from Iberian ham croquettes to prawn ceviche. Then come a starter, a main and a wedding cake chosen from a dozen recipes. The fish and rice are the reason to come, red scorpionfish with arroz a banda chief among them. Lamb, suckling pig and a vegetarian card cover everyone else. Wine comes in tiered cellar selections, and there's a children's menu for the under-twelves. Outside food and drink aren't allowed, cake included, which keeps packages for a wedding in Spain simple to price.

Music runs through the restaurant's own sound system, which has an acoustic limiter fitted to meet the island's noise rules. A DJ or live band plugs into the house set-up rather than bringing their own, and live music is welcome within those limits. The dance floor is the terrace itself. An evening wedding can run to around two in the morning, agreed with the restaurant in advance. An open bar is booked by the hour on top of the dinner wines. Fireworks aren't permitted, so the finale is the sunset, which the west coast provides on schedule.

The whole restaurant can be booked exclusively for 75 adults or more, with one event a day. Below that number your wedding takes one of the terraces while the restaurant keeps serving. The lunch crowd has thinned by early evening, so a smaller dinner still feels like your own. Two things shape the calendar: Ses Roques doesn't take events on Sundays or during July and August, and Saturdays are considered case by case. The sweet spot is a weekday in May, June, September or October, which suits couples comparing wedding locations in Spain for a quieter-season celebration.

The main terrace is roofed, and glass screens close off the seaward side when the wind gets up. A shower or a stiff breeze doesn't move the dinner. The upper terrace has a stretched sail for shade. The restaurant is a warm-season business, open from spring to fall with the kitchen closed over winter. May, June, September and October bring long evenings, warm sea and far fewer boats in the cove than August.
