About this venue
Honeymoon
Many couples linger in Barcelona after the celebration, and the hotel makes an easy base. Settle into a suite, enjoy the rooftop pool, and slow down after the planning. The spa is a welcome retreat once the guests head home. From here you're walking distance to the city's art, food, and architecture. A short trip opens up the Costa Brava coast or the wine country of Penedes. We're happy to suggest a few days of downtime nearby. It's a fitting soft landing after the wedding, with the same five-star comfort throughout.
Accommodation
Guests can stay right where you celebrate, which makes the whole weekend easier. The hotel offers classic and superior rooms, junior suites, and a range of larger suites. Six signature Art Suites honor former guests like Dali and Josephine Baker, with living areas and butler service. Having everyone under one roof means no late-night transfers and a relaxed morning after. It's the kind of detail that makes destination weddings in Spain run smoothly for couples and guests alike. We block rooms early to keep your party together. A spa and central courtyard give people somewhere to unwind between events.
Outdoor spaces
The 1,500 m² rooftop garden is what couples remember most. Reached from the seventh floor, it's a green oasis above the city, with a central pergola of tropical plants. A second pergola, named for the Sagrada Familia, frames the view toward Gaudi's basilica. Statues, sculptures, and more than 50 types of plants fill the space. There's a pool up here too, adding to the resort-like feel. It hosts ceremonies, drinks receptions, and dinners for up to roughly 200 guests. Being elevated, it stays sheltered while still feeling open to the sky. For warm-weather weddings, it's genuinely special.
Reception
Receptions here can feel grand or relaxed, depending on the room. The Gran Via Ballroom is the showpiece, with six-meter ceilings, gold detailing, and space for up to around 280 guests. The adjoining Dali room, named for the former guest, adds flexibility for up to 110. Smaller dinners work beautifully in the garden salons or the rooftop. Catering draws on the hotel's serious culinary pedigree, including its acclaimed restaurant. Whether you want a seated banquet or a flowing party, the venue adapts. We help you match the right space to your guest count, so the room never feels too empty or too tight.
Ceremony
We arrange symbolic ceremonies here, tailored to each couple. The rooftop garden is the star choice, with pergolas, sculptures, and over 50 plant species framing your vows. Views stretch toward the Sagrada Familia on clear days. For a more enclosed feel, the elegant indoor salons offer frescoed walls and period detail. Smaller groups suit intimate rooms, while the garden handles larger gatherings comfortably. Your dedicated wedding planner in Spain coordinates timing, styling, and the run of the day with the hotel team. We handle the paperwork questions too, so you arrive knowing exactly what to expect. All you focus on is the moment itself.
Location
The hotel stands on Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, steps from Passeig de Gracia. That puts Gaudi's Casa Batllo and La Pedrera within an easy stroll. The Gothic Quarter, the beach, and the city's best dining are all close by. For guests flying in, the airport is about a 20-minute drive. This central setting makes it simple for everyone to explore between wedding events. It's one of the most connected addresses among the wedding venues in Spain we recommend, and it means no one needs a car. Couples get a true city wedding without sacrificing calm at the venue itself.
History
El Palace opened in 1919 as the Barcelona Ritz, the only Ritz that Cesar Ritz designed outside a capital city. Catalan politician Francesc Cambo championed the project to raise the city's profile. Grand banquets and weddings shaped its reputation early on. In one peak year the hotel served 288 banquets for over 10,000 guests. It even served as a hospital during the Spanish Civil War before reclaiming its purpose. Renamed El Palace, it still carries that heritage in every cornice and chandelier. Marrying here means joining a long line of celebrations, and it's a reason our Spain wedding packages so often lead couples to Barcelona's grande dame.
Highlights
A landmark address, a sweeping rooftop garden, and a century of grand celebrations. That's the short version. El Palace pairs Belle Epoque glamour with a 1,500 m² rooftop garden overlooking the city, right beside Passeig de Gracia. Couples we work with love that everything sits under one roof here. You can marry among tropical pergolas, dine in a soaring ballroom, and put guests up in the same building. It suits intimate gatherings and larger parties alike, with spaces scaling from a dozen guests to a few hundred. For couples wanting Barcelona's heart with five-star ease, it's hard to beat.
