About this venue
Highlights
Mas Palou is a working wine estate in Penedès with over 700 years of family history. Vineyards stretch toward Montserrat, and the family's organic wines and olive oil anchor every gathering. They welcome just 12 couples a year, so you'll have the full run of the property. Browse our destination wedding packages in Spain to see how we build a celebration around a place like this.
Style
Whitewashed walls, exposed wooden beams, and tall ceilings give Mas Palou its Mediterranean character. This is a real family home - not a polished hotel or conference center. Centuries of additions blend rustic stone with warm interiors, and the working vineyard grounds it all. Everything feels genuine, from the vine-covered chapel to the barrel-lined cellar.
History
The family has called Mas Palou home since the 1300s - over 20 generations of winemakers and farmers. The private chapel dates to 1623 and still holds ceremonies today. The estate's wine cellar was built in 1872. In 1996 the family opened Cal Joaquim, a restored 19th-century farmworker's cottage, to overnight guests. They still tend the vines and olive trees themselves.
Location
Mas Palou sits in El Pla del Penedès, roughly 45 minutes from Barcelona-El Prat airport. Penedès is Catalonia's premier wine region - rolling vineyards, small stone villages, and quiet country roads. You're close enough to Barcelona for a day trip but far enough to feel completely removed. Our planner in Spain handles transfers, vendor coordination, and everything in between.
Surroundings
The Penedès wine route runs through the area, with dozens of bodegas open for tastings. Vilafranca del Penedès is the nearest town, known for its castellers tradition and lively markets. Sitges and its beaches are a short drive south. Montserrat's dramatic peaks are visible from the estate and make for an unforgettable excursion. For couples planning a destination wedding in Spain, the region keeps everyone entertained.
Accommodation
Three guesthouses sit across the grounds. Cal Joaquim sleeps 10, Cal Lluís sleeps 6, and Casa Sant Jaume fits up to 5. That's room for 18 guests in all. Each has pool access, air-conditioning, and a kitchen. Breakfast is included: local cocoa bread, homemade jam, and fresh-squeezed orange juice in the open-air dining room. It's a warm way to bring everyone together the morning after.
Ceremony
The private chapel dates to 1623 and hosts Christian, civil, and secular ceremonies. Most couples say their vows outdoors, beneath a large shade tree in front of the chapel. Vineyards roll out behind, and the stone walls and creeping vines frame the scene naturally. Inside, a centuries-old painted bedsheet left by passing pilgrims adds a quiet, unexpected touch.
Outdoor spaces
The courtyard anchors the estate and works beautifully for cocktail hours and open-air dinners. Beyond it, gardens, vineyard paths, and a stone staircase wind through the property. A shared pool gives guests somewhere to unwind between events. These aren't manicured show gardens - they're working grounds shaped by centuries of use. That gives them a warmth hard to find at other wedding venues in Spain.
Reception
The courtyard is the natural spot for dinner. Think long tables under string lights, estate walls rising on every side. For a more enclosed gathering, the 1872 wine cellar seats up to 80 among stone arches and barrels. A smaller barrel room works well for groups of around 50. As the sun sets, evening lights strung overhead fill the courtyard with a warm glow.
Catering
Mas Palou works with top local caterers who specialize in seasonal Mediterranean cuisine. The estate's own organic wines and extra virgin olive oil often feature in the meal or as table accents. Couples we've worked with here have chosen everything from rustic family-style feasts to polished tasting menus. Bottled olive oil from the estate makes a popular wedding favor, too.
Photoshoot
The vineyard rows, stone staircase, and chapel exterior give couples a range of backdrops without leaving the grounds. Golden hour lights up the vines beautifully, and sunset behind Montserrat adds real drama to portraits. The courtyard, pool area, and interior archways of the cellar work well for more intimate shots. Photographers who've shot here consistently praise the natural light and variety of settings.
Exclusivity
Mas Palou hosts just 12 weddings a year. The family lives on the estate and keeps the calendar deliberately small. On your wedding day, the entire property is yours - no other events, no shared spaces, no strangers by the pool. That privacy, combined with overnight accommodation for 18, means everyone close to you stays together. They'll have the run of the place from arrival to departure.
