History

The castle’s construction started in 1736 when the Prince Archbishop of Salzburg commissioned it as a family estate. Benhard Stuart, a Scottish Benedictine monk was its master builder while Johann Kleber worked on the castle’s ceilings to create what is regarded as the best example of rococo stucco the land can offer.

Since it was built in the 18th-century, the ownership of the castle passed from one person to another. One of the owners was an artist who placed his large collection of paintings, including Rembrandt’s, into the castle, but the next owner sold most of the famous works of art. The ownership then passed on to a banker, and finally to an international non-profit organization that took good care of the castle for its preservation and maintenance.

Now, the venue welcomes guests for a luxurious stay in its historic and luxury suites and an opportunity to have memorable weddings and events in its dreamlike castle park, terraces, function rooms, and banquet halls.

Ceremony

Whether it’s an outdoor wedding or a solemn indoor ceremony, this Austrian castle gives the best experience to couples who will choose it for their big day. You can recite your vows indoors, right at the chapel for a more solemn vibe or at the terrace with views of the palace park, the lake, and the 15,000 plant species of the garden. You can also choose a ceremony spot at the garden where your wedding arch will be set up facing the lake for your guests to enjoy.

Summer weddings outdoors at the castle promise a light and bright ceremony with breathtaking views of the green forests and the glittering lake. Winter weddings, on the other hand, offer a cool and breezy atmosphere with winter wonderland scenes from the snow-covered alpine forests and snow-capped mountains.

Another unique type of wedding that you can explore is a ceremony in the castle’s historic library filled with historic architecture on display and gigantic bookshelves with ancient literary works tucked inside.
