Many couples are looking for the perfect spot for their destination wedding in Italy, and the ideal location of this villa makes it stand out from many other Italian venues. It sits at the heart of a picturesque village called Varenna - a center of wellness, art, and nature.
It is perched at the edge of the village right in front of Lake Como, one of the most visited landscaped areas in Italy. With that location in mind, you can just imagine how dreamy your wedding will be if you celebrate it here.
Before being acquired by the local government of Varenna, the villa has a rich history of private ownership that shaped its character as an iconic venue along Lake Como.
The villa’s history goes back to as early as 1169 when a noble Serponti family migrated to the village. They were the first owners of the villa, but at the end of the 18th-century, Baron Isimbardi, the director of Milan’s Mint, acquired it.
The villa was then turned into a hotel with many famous guests, including an Emperor of Austria during the mid-19th-century, Emperor Ferdinand I. Three more families acquired the villa in the 19th-century to late 20th-century, until the “People and Friends of Varenna” finally bought the property.
