About this venue

Highlights

Fairytale, history, and nature are the best attributes of this castle in the Middle Rhine Valley. Surrounded by many similar castles, palaces, and ruins from all sides, the valley's forested hills, and the Rhine river right in front, this wedding venue invites you to leave your daily life behind to dive into a fairytale setting with no space for stress.

Say I do in the garden overlooking the Rhine region. Wine and dine like royalty in the venue's world-class restaurant, and explore the magic of the castle's museum as part of your honeymoon. Let your ordinary life be a thing of the past and see your dreams coming true, even for a day when you get married in this surreal castle in Germany.

Location

The castle is located at the heart of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site that was recognized for its romantic natural landscape and cultural significance. The venue is only one of the many historic buildings across the region built for a period of one thousand years.

The Upper Middle Rhine Valley is home to lovely small towns with terraced vineyards and a wealth of nature carefully preserved by its inhabitants. It offers tranquility and rich history steeped into every kilometer of the valley and the castles and ruins standing on the hills up to this day. It's a perfect place to have your romantic, once-in-a-lifetime destination wedding in Germany.

History

The castle has been in existence since the 12th century, but it was constantly a subject of destruction for political reasons. Wars had left the building in a state of abandonment and decay until the mid-19th century when the new owners converted it into a residential castle.

The historic structure finally went into the good hands of the Puricelli family, who have refurbished the castle into its former glory, but even better. The family has owned the castle since the mid-19th century, and to date, they have only renovated it to perfection. First, they converted it into a neo-Gothic residential castle in the English style, and just recently, in 2014 and 2015, they further renovated and modernized the castle complex to become an events place and a hotel with a world-class restaurant that it is today.

Ceremony

The garden lies at the very edge of the castle complex overlooking the Rhine River, the forested hills, and the terraced vineyards of the Upper Middle Rhine. It's the most scenic spot to hold your ceremony.

The chapel's inner courtyard is another option for outdoor ceremonies where you and your guests will be surrounded by the castle's historic facade. The courtyard is an excellent option for intimate weddings with its enclosed structure, giving a private yet bright and airy ambiance. The chapel, on the other hand, is suitable for solemn religious ceremonies.

If you're bringing a smaller group of guests, the library that fits up to 60 people within its walls, loaded with shelves and stacks of books, could be the perfect area for you. There's another event room for intimate events of up to 40 people, where you and your guests will be surrounded by ancestral treasures from centuries past.

Reception

For a truly historic vibe, take your guests to the medieval event area with cloisters reminiscent of the architectural style of the Middle Ages. Built with glass walls on one side, it offers amazing views of the Rhine Valley for an unforgettable wedding reception. Believe it or not, the castle has a horse stable, not for horses, but for rustic and laidback events. This area can fit up to 80 people in its high-ceiling, minimalist, wood interior where tables can be arranged and a stage set up in front.

The lounge is the most informal and cozy area in the castle for a wedding reception with more or less a hundred people. It has a fireplace and period sofas for a relaxed and intimate celebration. The library can also be your dinner area with a private and exclusive vibe.

If you prefer an outdoor wedding reception, the garden is always available to give you a fresh and airy ambiance overlooking the peaceful Rhine River and its picturesque villages. If you prefer something more historic in appeal, the chapel courtyard is another option for an outdoor wedding reception, with the facade of the castle in full view.
