Types of Wedding Ceremonies in NI
Speaking of the type of ceremony, we give couples the freedom to have a civil, symbolic, legally-binding, or religious celebration. You might have an idea what kind of ceremony you’ll have, so read on to match which type is most fitting for you. Request our brochure to read more.
A civil marriage is legally-binding and may only be conducted by the registrar or deputy registrar for the district in which it is to take place, in the Registrar’s Office or at an approved venue. You can also apply for temporary approval for a civil ceremony at a place of your own choice. Civil ceremonies can take place any day of the week, including national holidays.
If you’re chosen spot for the ceremony isn’t licensed to hold weddings or you were denied temporary approval, you can opt for for the ceremony to be performed by a Minister of any recognized Religious body or organisation. In Northern Ireland, Religious wedding ceremonies can take place anywhere, including outdoors, if the Minister agrees to the location.
Symbolic ceremonies are perfect for couples who want a totally hassle-free marriage abroad, without having to deal with any legal paperwork or following the requirements. Couples who are already married at home and those free-spirited ones who go for a symbolic wedding just for the chance to marry in a dramatic outdoor location.

Absolutely! Within three days after the ceremony is over you must send the signed marriage schedule back to the Registrar (or hand it in personally). Afterwards you will be able to order a copy of your marriage certificate online. To register the marriage in your home country just take this marriage certificate to the local courthouse or other government body which is responsible for the civil register in your country.
Unlike the Republic of Ireland, the legal requirements to get married in Northern Ireland are slightly simpler. You must give the Registrar a minimum of 28 days notice before the suggested wedding date (versus 3 months in the republic of Ireland). The marriage application can be submitted by post and both yourself and the Officiant will need to sign hard copies of the application form. (There is no requirement for an in-person meeting with the Registrar). Non-UK, EEA or Swiss citizens will also need to obtain a Marriage Visa and complete an Immigration Status Statement. Proof of both these documents needs to be submitted together with your Marriage Notice Application Form.
The warmest months of the year in Northern Ireland are July and August, however they are also some of the wettest. On average, the rainiest month tends to be October whilst April and May is when you can enjoy the least amount of rain. We advice to avoid eloping to Northern Ireland during the colder months between November and March. Whilst the best month to get married in Northern Ireland is probably May because it sees the least amount of rain, most hours of sunshine per day and relatively high temperatures. Please do not predict the weather when you choose your wedding date! Choose what feels natural of meaningful for you and it’s going to be just perfect, rain or not.
Yes! In the case of all except Civil ceremonies performed by the Registrar and traditional Catholic (or other religious) ceremonies you can customise your ceremony wording. You can write and say your own vows in all types of ceremonies.
No, when doing a symbolic ceremony (i.e. non legally-binding ceremony) there are no legal requirements to follow!

My husband and I wanted a small, intimate wedding with just our immediate families present. For months, I had searched the internet through just about every venue in Ireland, when one day I stumbled across Peach Perfect Weddings. I chatted with Yana and gave her a few details of what we were looking for, and it was as though she knew me from that single conversation. Every single detail of our wedding was an absolute perfect fit for us. The venue was secluded and straight out of a fairy tale; the photographer, Nerijus, was amazing; the food from ChefHire.ie was unbelievably delicious. We had a slight hiccup with my bouquet, but Yana went above and beyond and had everything fixed with a new bouquet (even more beautiful than what I had imagined), created and sent within a matter of minutes. It was incredible! She even snagged one of the best hair/makeup artists for me when she heard she happened to be available on my day. Thank you, Peach Perfect Weddings, for making this planning process so simple and stress-free (on our end, at least). I cannot possibly thank Yana enough for suggesting such a perfect location and for assembling an amazing crew to make our day so wonderfully special.
Yana made our special day truly incredible and worry-free! From the initial Skype phone call to the email correspondences leading up to the big day and beyond – Yana was extremely responsive and thorough. She was always there to help answer my questions and provide clarity on any items that required additional detail and helped to customize our “package” most suitable for us!
Who would have thought planning an elopement/marriage “on the other side of the world” from the US to Ireland would be such a breeze! For our special day, everything went splendid without a hitch! It was a fairy tale we will always remember. So magical! Her vendors for the floral, cake, photography and transportation truly mirror Yana and her service – 5 Stars!!! The entire team made our wedding so special. Everyone was such a delight and so personable and professional. We truly could not have asked for a more memorable wedding in Ireland which was completed with such ease. I can’t thank Yana enough! Our experience truly holds a special place in our hearts.
Weather… When To Get Married in Northern Ireland
Get married in Northern Ireland expecting momentary drizzles. It’s a mountainous region and it receives around 10-15 days of rain each month, even in summer, so be prepared! But you know, rainfalls usually last only for a short period of time in Norther Ireland, plus they make for a perfectly dramatic atmosphere for photoshoots. So the best options for an outdoor wedding in Northern Ireland would be to just wait for some minutes for the rain to pass, or to book your accommodation in a nice hotel with some sort of common space where your ceremony could take place – in case the rainfall really doesn’t stop!
To enjoy nature at its best, plan your overseas wedding in Northern Ireland between July and August. In these summer months, in fact, greenery looks so colorful and vibrant, temperatures are mild and rainfalls are a bit less expected. But what characterizes the most this region are falling leaves and golden tones, right? For this kind of scenery, come and get married in Northern Ireland during fall (from August to October) or spring (from February to April). During these months, you’ll assist to a lovely transformation of trees from green to gold, red and brown.
From November to March winter is at its peak in Northern Ireland, and we actually don’t advise our couples to plan their event here during this period of the year. You could just feel too uncomfortable with the cold temperatures and the imminent rain.
