# Luxury castle with stunning library and gardens in Frankfurt

## About this venue

### Highlights

Schlosshotel Kronberg is a 19th-century royal castle set on eight hectares of parkland just 20 minutes from Frankfurt Airport. Built for Empress Victoria Friedrich - daughter of Britain's Queen Victoria - the castle blends Renaissance grandeur with English country house warmth. Five historic salons seat 16 to 120 guests, and 58 individually designed rooms mean your entire party stays under one roof. An 18-hole golf course, terraced rose garden, and Beauty Cottage spa complete a venue that feels like a private royal estate.

### Style

Berlin court architect Ernst Ihne blended German and Italian Renaissance with English Tudor Gothic and local Taunus half-timbering. The result is a castle that reads as grand without feeling museum-like. Inside, British designer Nina Campbell furnished each room with antiques and classical pieces, creating a lived-in elegance. The first-floor salons walk you through art history from Gothic to Classicism. The Fireplace Hall and Victoria Lounge feel like stepping into a refined country house.

### History

Empress Victoria Friedrich, Queen of Prussia and daughter of the British Queen Victoria, commissioned the castle in 1889 after losing her husband who reigned just 99 days. No longer wanted in Berlin, the former Empress chose the grounds of Kronberg for her new home.

She filled her castle's rooms with 30 years' worth of art that she had collected with her departed husband. Queen Victoria, her mother, visited in 1895, and Tsar Nicholas II planted trees in the park a year later. After wartime occupation and a 1967 fire, the Hesse family reopened it as a lovingly restord luxeury hotel.

### Location

Kronberg im Taunus sits between the forested Taunus hills and the Rhine-Main plain, giving you countryside quiet with city convenience. Frankfurt Airport is just 20 km away - roughly 18 minutes by car. Frankfurt's city center is a short train ride from Kronberg station. The castle perches above the old town, with views stretching across its own parkland and golf course. For couples [getting married in Germany](/destination-weddings-in-germany), few spots combine this level of access with this much seclusion.

### Surroundings

Kronberg's old town is a stroll downhill from the castle gates. You'll find cobblestone lanes, half-timbered houses, cafés, and a weekly farmers' market. The medieval Burg Kronberg and Gothic St. Johanniskirche anchor the town center. Beyond that, the Taunus Nature Park opens up with hiking and cycling trails through dense forest. A popular route climbs to the Altkönig summit at 798 meters, one of the region's best viewpoints. Frankfurt itself is close enough for a guest excursion to the Römerberg or the Main riverfront.

### Transport

Frankfurt Airport is 20 km from the castle - about 18 minutes by car. By train, Kronberg station connects directly to Frankfurt's S-Bahn network, with the city center around 50 minutes away. The hotel offers free on-site parking, so guests arriving by car have no logistical worries. Day trips into Frankfurt run easily in both directions. We handle all the transfer details so your guests arrive relaxed and on time.

### Accommodation

The castle's 58 rooms and suites spread across ten categories, from cozy Heritage Rooms to the grand Royal Suite. British designer Nina Campbell furnished each one individually, pairing valuable antiques with comfortable modern touches. Most rooms overlook the park or golf course, and several suites sleep up to four. With every guest staying in the castle itself, the entire celebration stays intimate and connected. Our [German wedding packages](/germany) include help coordinating room blocks so your party is sorted from the start.

### Getting ready

The Royal Suite or a Castle Balcony Suite makes a glamorous base for the wedding morning. You'll have space to spread out, natural light, and views over the parkland.

The on-site Beauty Cottage can be booked for treatments ranging from facials to manicures. Your party can get ready just steps from the ceremony space, keeping the morning relaxed and unhurried.

### Ceremony

Two ceremony settings stand out here. The Rotunda is an open-air space framed by the castle park, seating up to 60 guests. For indoor ceremonies, the historic Bibliothek seats the same number beneath floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. It doubles as a solid wet-weather backup. Both civil and symbolic ceremonies are welcome. Among [German wedding locations](/wedding-venues-in-germany), few ceremony locations that are suitable for civil ceremonies are that beautiful.

### Outdoor spaces

Eight hectares of English-style parkland surround the castle, designed in the 1890s by Potsdam court gardener Hermann Walter. The terraced Italian rose garden - with its grotto and waterfall - is a standout photo backdrop and cocktail hour spot. Broad lawns slope down to the golf course, and mature trees frame the terraces overlooking it all. Whether you're planning drinks on the terrace or portraits among the roses, the grounds give you plenty of room.

### Reception

Five historic salons offer seating from intimate to grand. The Blauer Salon (16 guests) and Kleiner Speisesaal (25 guests) suit elopements and micro-weddings. The Bibliothek and Roter Salon each hold up to 60 for a seated dinner. For larger celebrations, the Grüner Salon seats 120. Each room has its own character - from blue silk walls to deep red tapestries - and all open onto garden views. After dinner, the Fireplace Hall and Victoria Lounge serve cocktails until 1 AM on weekends.

### Catering

Two on-site restaurants anchor the food. Restaurant Victoria serves refined seasonal cuisine, while Enrico d'Assia blends German and Italian flavors. For weddings, the kitchen team works with couples to build a menu that fits just right. Expect locally sourced ingredients with a seasonal focus, from welcome drinks through to late-night bites. [Our planner in Germany](/wedding-planner-in-germany) coordinates tastings and menu planning so you can finalize everything before you arrive.

### Activities

The castle's 18-hole golf course is one of Germany's most scenic, winding through century-old trees in the Schlosspark. The Beauty Cottage spa offers massages, facials, and grooming treatments. It's ideal for a pre-wedding wind-down or a morning-after group reset. Guests can take guided tours of the castle itself or explore the rose gardens at their own pace. For something quieter, English afternoon tea is served in the Empress's own library.
