## When to get married in Ireland

*GOT A DATE?*

Each season brings out its own character in Ireland. The right time for your wedding depends on the atmosphere you're after and the practicalities of your day.

### Spring

*March – May*

The best time to catch the blooming flower fields and fresh foliage that covers the parks, and gardens in Ireland. The temperature during this season remains mild at 46–54°F (8–12°C). If you wish to get married in a natural spot here in Ireland, late spring is the best season to do it.

Best for:
- blossoming gardens
- mild, comfortable temperatures
- quieter settings before peak season

### Summer

*June – August*

In summer, temperatures are balmy and daytime can last for as long as 18 hours! That makes this season a great time to elope in Ireland. One thing to note is that summer is the holiday season in Ireland so you can expect an influx of tourists, as well as locals enjoying the natural spots all around the country.

Best for:
- long daylight hours
- outdoor ceremonies
- the liveliest city settings

### Autumn

*September – November*

Next to spring, autumn is the best season to get married in Ireland. Vacationists start to head home, thus, you can expect dropping rates of wedding venues and smaller crowds. If privacy means much to you, then it's best to schedule your wedding in Ireland in the months of September or October.

Best for:
- golden countryside scenery
- cozy pub celebrations
- better availability at popular venues

### Winter

*December to February*

Winter suits couples after a snug, fireside atmosphere. Outdoor wedding ceremonies are not recommended, as chances of adverse weather are too high. Instead, cozy indoor settings in traditional pubs or grand castle settings are a beautiful choice.

Best for:
- cozy indoor celebrations
- romantic castle interiors
- better value and availability

## Kenzie & James

I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about the experience or Hattie!!

## Wedding ceremony types in Ireland

The ceremony type you choose shapes everything from the venue you pick to the way your vows are worded — we are happy to advise on what suits your Irish wedding best.

### Civil

A civil wedding in Ireland can only be held indoors, at a licensed wedding venue and officiated by a registrar on a regular working day, Monday to Friday. Civil ceremonies follow a specific format and are not very flexible in terms of changes and personalization.

### Secular

In Ireland, we consider a Secular ceremony the type of ceremony which draws from pagan Celtic traditions. Although these are few and far between, there are a small number of Secular Officiants, also known as Celtic Priests, who are licensed Solemnisers capable of performing a legally-binding wedding ceremony in Ireland.

### Religious

Another type of legally-binding ceremony is a Catholic wedding in Ireland. If you're choosing this type of ceremony, you will be required to follow the rules of marriage as outlined by the Catholic Church.

For protestant couples or couples of different denominations, venues exist but are fewer.

### Spiritual & Humanist

A Humanist ceremony is free-flowing and relaxed. It is performed by a Humanist officiant and must only include the declarations to be legally sound. Despite the name, spiritual ceremonies have no affiliation with any religion. In fact, this is a non-denominational type of wedding that is not too different from a Humanist ceremony.

## Requirements for legal weddings in Ireland

Ireland is one of the easiest European countries for foreigners to marry legally. Here's what the paperwork involves — and how we keep it on track for you.

## Elopement, intimate wedding, or vow renewal?

*UNMISTAKABLY YOURS*

Whether you escape to Ireland just the two of you or gather your closest people for an intimate celebration, the kind of wedding you choose will shape how the whole day unfolds.

### Elopement

*JUST FOR TWO*

Traditionally just the two of you, today often with a few loved ones along. An Irish elopement lets the day flow naturally — as simple or as elaborate as you like.

[Elope in Ireland](https://peachperfectweddings.com/elope-in-ireland)

### Microwedding

*THE CLOSEST LOVED ONES*

Usually up to 60 guests, but the count matters less than the craic. An intimate wedding in Ireland is about celebrating with the people who matter most.

[Marry in Ireland](https://peachperfectweddings.com/small-wedding-in-ireland)

### Vow Renewal

*RENEWED LOVE*

For couples who want to renew their promises — on the cliffs, or in a castle you've both dreamed about. Just you two, or with everyone you love.

[Renew vows in Ireland](https://peachperfectweddings.com/vow-renewal-in-ireland)

## Ireland vs. other wedding destinations

Ireland is one of a kind — but if you're still weighing your options, here's how it compares with two of our other favorite destinations.

### Italy

Italy is the sun-drenched classic: villas, vineyards, and reliably warm ceremonies under open skies. Ireland trades that certainty for drama — wild Atlantic cliffs, mossy castles, and skies that change by the hour. There's also no language barrier here, and legal ceremonies are refreshingly flexible. Choose Italy for golden-hour glamour; choose Ireland for wild romance and effortless English-speaking planning.

### Germany

Germany shares Ireland's love of castles, set amid forests and Alpine foothills with famously efficient logistics. Irish castles come with sea cliffs, folklore, and hosts who treat your guests like old friends — plus everything happens in English. Choose Germany for fairytale precision and value; choose Ireland for Celtic soul and storytelling warmth.

## A single day or a full wedding week?

Plenty of our couples turn their Irish wedding into a long weekend — and honestly, we love planning those. One day or a full week, we'll shape it with you.

### Ceremony only

*SHORT & SWEET*

Our couples that choose to elope with just the two of them or a few loved ones often choose to have a heartfelt ceremony, followed by a photoshoot and dinner to celebrate.

### Classic 1-day wedding

*A DAY TO LOVE*

The traditional wedding that stretches over the whole day with the ceremony at its heart. An extended photoshoot, reception, and plenty of time for dancing after dinner.

### 2-day wedding

*EXTENDED CELEBRATION*

Create some breathing room around your day with added space for coming together the night before at a welcome dinner, or sharing a post-wedding brunch the morning after.

### 3-day wedding or more

*LASTING ADVENTURE*

Extend the party by making your destination wedding a true adventure: local experiences like tours, exploring Ireland's nature and heritage, or tasting your way through the local pubs.

## Megan & Jerod

It was worth every penny. We had the best day, which we could do it all over again.

## A timeline for your wedding day in Ireland

Every wedding we plan is its own thing, but many of our Irish one-day celebrations flow like this. We keep timings flexible — the Irish light (and weather) has ideas of its own.

## Shaping the atmosphere of your Irish wedding abroad

*UNMISTAKABLY YOURS*

Each of our Irish weddings is as unique as the couple that celebrates it, and we love being a part of them all! Share your wishes with us and let us bring to life a day that embodies who you are and how you love.

### The great outdoors

*Windy & wild*

The great cliffs of Ireland await adventurous couples who are not afraid to face the elements and some wind in their hair and rain on their heads.

### Stately castle days

*Lavish & historic*

Grand estates with old-world charm — Irish castle weddings are the right setting for indoor weddings in Ireland with a sense of timeless elegance.

### Irish coziness

*Warm & familiar*

Irish pubs are not only a great way to experience Irish food and drink culture, but a cozy setting for celebrating the joy of your wedding day in an effortless manner.

### Country escapes

*Intimate settings*

Escape the buzz of the Dublin inner city and the wind of the cliffs, and explore the cottages and lodges of the Irish countryside. All yours for the day.

## Cost of a wedding in Ireland

*THE FINANCIALS*

Your wedding cost should never feel like a mystery. One of the first questions many couples ask: How much does a destination wedding in Ireland cost?

### €4,000 – €8,000

*Simple celebrations*

Elopements or small weddings that focus on the very essentials — your ceremony, photography, florals, and styling — usually fall within this range.

### €8,000 – €25,000

*Intimate weddings*

Add guests and catering, as well as extended photography to capture the moments from your first look to your last dance. Larger or simply more elaborate weddings will start here.

### €25,000+

*Lavish weddings*

Popular wedding venues, summer weekends, and elaborate wedding setups that are custom-tailored to your wishes — you can expect pricing of about this starting point.

## Upfront prices, no surprises

*RESPECT FOR YOUR BUDGET*

## Irish wedding cuisine

*Hearty & comforting*

### A taste of the Atlantic

*Starters*

Begin your wedding feast with fresh oysters, smoked salmon, and hearty dark bread, classic Irish starters that bring comforting flavor to your wedding menu.

*Main courses*

Slow-cooked lamb and Guinness stew, and fresh Atlantic seafood or vegetarian dishes from the farms reflect Ireland's deep connection to its land and coastline.

### A toast to the newlyweds

*Something sweet*

Round off the evening with a classic Irish wedding cake, often a rich fruitcake soaked in whiskey, paired with a glass of Irish cream or a dram of whiskey for the toast.

## Emily & Alexander

We worked with Claire and she was amazing! She walked us through all steps and was able to answer our questions and put us at ease through the whole process.

## Wedding traditions in Ireland

Irish wedding culture is warm and full of life, with togetherness at its core. Customs differ from region to region — folding a few of them into your day gives it a real sense of place.

### Celtic handfasting

*Tying the knot*

Our most beloved wedding tradition in Ireland. The couple's hands are tied with a knot during the wedding ceremony, symbolizing the union and their shared love from this day on.

### Claddagh rings

*A symbol of loyalty*

This traditional Irish ring, featuring two hands holding a crowned heart, symbolizes love, loyalty, and friendship. It is often exchanged by couples on their wedding day.

### Blue wedding dress

*Pure and bright*

The color blue has long been associated with purity, love, and fidelity. While the precise origins cannot be traced, wearing blue on the wedding day is an old tradition in Ireland.

## Megan & Jerod

An absolute dream come true!

## Getting around Ireland

*TRANSPORT*

Getting around Ireland is simple and convenient, with plenty of ways to turn the journey itself into part of the experience.

### Flying in

Most international visitors arrive through Dublin Airport, Ireland's main international hub, with Shannon and Cork also offering convenient access for couples marrying in the west or south of the country.

### Trains

Ireland's rail network connects major cities like Dublin, Cork, and Galway comfortably, though many of Ireland's most scenic wedding destinations are best reached by road.

### Rental car

A rental car offers the most flexibility for exploring Ireland's countryside, coastline, and castle venues, especially in more remote regions along the Wild Atlantic Way.

### Scenic cruises & ferries

For a memorable arrival, consider a scenic ferry crossing or a coastal cruise, taking in Ireland's dramatic shoreline from the water.

## Staying in Ireland

*HOTELS & CO.*

Staying in style comes easily when you are getting married in Ireland.

### Boutique hotels

Ireland offers a wonderful range of boutique hotels, from coastal retreats to characterful townhouses, many within easy reach of your wedding venue.

### Country houses

Charming, family-run country houses across Ireland offer a warm, personal place to stay, often set within beautiful gardens or grounds.

### Castles & estates

## Ireland compared to other European wedding destinations

Wondering how Ireland measures up against other European wedding destinations? The short version:

## Kind words from couples we helped to tie the knot in Ireland

> "From the very start, Hattie absolutely blew me away with her professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail. Not only did she take care of EVERYTHING, from planning and logistics to communicating with vendors, she did it all with such kindness and calm energy that made the entire process enjoyable. (...) Hattie went above and beyond to make sure everything was seamless and stress-free. "
> — Kenzie & James, from United States

> Getting married in Northern Ireland was a true dream come true, and there is no way we would have been able to pull it off without Peach Perfect and more specifically, Claire's help. She worked great with the time zone changes as we were based out of the US, and we were always confident our questions would be answered quickly if they came up. I would definitely recommend Peach Perfect if you are thinking of getting married in Ireland or Northern Ireland.
> — Emily & Alexander, from United States

> We have nothing but incredible things to say about her and her incredible ability to plan a perfect day from so far away. We are from the States and she never made us feel like we were planning a wedding overseas. It was easy and stress-free from start to finish. She contacted all of the vendors, handled all the communications, and made everything go so smoothly. Everyone is STILL talking about what a perfect day it was.

The currency in Ireland is the Euro. You can pay by card almost anywhere, but it is good to carry some cash with you just in case.

### Languages spoken

English is the primary language spoken throughout Ireland, with Irish (Gaelic) as the official first language, more commonly heard in the western regions.

Ireland celebrates major Christian holidays nationally, alongside distinctly Irish celebrations such as St. Patrick's Day, worth keeping in mind when planning your date.

## FAQs about getting married in Ireland

*WE HAVE THE ANSWERS*

### What ceremony types are available in Ireland?

Ireland offers four main options. A civil ceremony is the straightforward legally binding choice, held at a licensed venue on a weekday with a registrar. A humanist ceremony is personal and free-flowing, and legally valid when the required declarations are included. A secular ceremony draws from Celtic traditions. And religious ceremonies are available for Catholic and other denominations. We're happy to talk through which suits you best.

### What's the best time of year to get married in Ireland?

Late spring (May) and early autumn (September to October) are our top picks — your best chance of dry weather, the Irish countryside at its most lush, and venues that haven't sold out. Summer is lovely too, with evenings that seem to go on forever. Winter weddings are wonderful indoors, though we don't recommend outdoor ceremonies outside the May–October window.

### Do we need to worry about the Irish weather?

Ireland's weather is famously changeable, and we won't pretend otherwise. But we plan for it — with indoor backup options, smart scheduling, and venues that work beautifully regardless of conditions. Most of our couples find that even a passing shower adds to the atmosphere. The lush green landscapes Ireland is famous for are, after all, a direct result of the rain.

### What makes Ireland different from other European wedding destinations?

A few things set Ireland apart. There's no language barrier for English-speaking couples. Irish hospitality is genuinely warm — not a performance, just how people are here. The venues — clifftop ruins, historic castles, whitewashed coastal pubs — are unlike anything you'll find elsewhere in Europe. And Ireland is one of the most accessible destinations from the US, Canada, and UK, with direct flights and no visa requirements for most.

### How far in advance should we plan an Irish wedding?

For popular castle venues and clifftop locations in the peak May–September season, we recommend getting in touch at least 12 months ahead. For elopements or couples with flexible dates, shorter timelines are often possible. Either way, reach out early — we'll give you an honest picture of what's available and when.

### Can foreigners legally get married in Ireland?

Yes — and more easily than in most of Europe. You give three months' notice to the registrar and attend a short in-person appointment; after that, civil, religious, and even humanist ceremonies are all legally binding. No residency is required, and your planner keeps the dates and documents on track.

### Can our legal ceremony happen outdoors?

Often, yes — one of Ireland's quiet superpowers. Unlike much of Europe, legally binding ceremonies can happen beyond registry offices: humanist and spiritual celebrants can marry you in castle gardens, on clifftops, or by a lake, provided the setting is agreed in advance. A weather backup plan comes standard with us.

### How much does a wedding in Ireland cost?

Broadly comparable to other Western European destinations, with a twist: some of Ireland's finest ceremony spots — cliffs, beaches, national parks — cost little or nothing to use. Castles and country estates range more widely by season and exclusivity. Our fixed-price packages spell it all out upfront.

### What guest count do you work with in Ireland?

From just the two of you to around 60 guests. Elopements shine here — a windswept cliff ceremony followed by dinner in a castle — while our intimate weddings fill country-house estates without ever feeling crowded.

### Do you plan same-sex weddings in Ireland?

Proudly, yes. Ireland made history in 2015 as the first country to legalize same-sex marriage by popular vote, and the welcome here is genuine. All ceremony types, all couples.
